Westark Chess Club
You are on the official club website for the Fort Smith, River Valley area group. Westark Chess Club is a member of the Arkansas Chess Association, a 501.C3 non-profit organization dedicated to furthering chess in the state of Arkansas. Our goal is to promote interest in and enjoyment of chess at all levels. We operate to further educational, recreational, and social aspects of chess in the state and help our members achieve their chess goals. We have casual play, where beginners are welcome. We have a chess library available, offer chess supplies for sale, and host occasional tournaments.
Casual Club Gatherings
Visit one of the get-togethers to meet the group, hone your skills, and catch a game or two.
Join us for casual play during either of our regular, twice-a-week club meetings in Fort Smith: Mondays at 6pm Burger King (Zero & Hwy 271 South) and Thursdays at 6pm at Denny’s (Rogers Ave. near Hobby Lobby). Players also meet occasional Saturday mornings or afternoons in Van Buren to play. If you are interested in playing in Van Buren, contact Blake Tanner at 479-653-4923.

Chess Mom who helps with social media, organized the chess library, serves as tournament organizer and club promoter in her role as President.
Member at Large
With over 225 tournaments, Tyler is the most prolific tournament player in the club. He served as the ACA Board member for many years.
A local accountant & entrepreneur, “The Tax Doctor”, is a recent addition to WCC. Joining the club and re-entering competitive tournament play after a hiatus from chess.
Resource Library Coordinator
Houses the club’s chess library and will bring any book a member requests. Contact Sherman to check out a resource.
ACA Board Representative
Young married with two young children who generously serves the club as our representative on the ACA Executive Board.
Member at Large
Among the strongest players in the club, a Lifetime USCF member, been part of Westark CC since its inception, a former AR state champion, and retired school teacher. Bill brings experience and wisdom to the club.

Westark Chess Club History
Westark Chess Club was founded by Ernest Cialone an instructor at the former Westark College, now University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Ernest shares the story this way, ”
Ernest served as the first president, followed by Joel Gargus, and Karis Bellisario is the current president.
